What a work by Doron Langberg is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Doron Langberg was born in 1985 in Yokneam, in northern Israel, and trained in the United States, at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2010, and at the Yale School of Art, where he took his MFA in 2012. He lives and works in New York. His paintings are about intimacy: his partner, friends, family and lovers, in domestic moments and in landscape, and the flowers and gardens around them, painted in oil with fluid, wet brushwork and saturated, unexpected colour, often on a very large scale, so that the touch of the brush and the touch between the figures become one subject. Critics have placed him in a generation of queer figurative painters that includes Salman Toor and Louis Fratino. He has received the John Koch Award for painting from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and in 2024 the Kunsthal Rotterdam gave him Part of Your World, his first institutional solo exhibition in Europe.

The paintings are oil on linen and unique, from small studies to canvases several metres wide; works on paper are fewer. Victoria Miro and Yossi Milo represent him, and a provenance through either, with the date and any exhibition history, is the first thing a buyer checks. The paint is often thin and fluid, with bare passages of linen, so stains and handling marks on the ground show readily.

Yokneam, Yale and Part of Your World

He has held residencies at the EFA Studio Program, the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program and Yaddo, and took part in the Queer Art Mentorship Program.

His work has been shown in the collection displays of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
