What a work by Allen Jones is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Allen Jones was born in Southampton in 1937 and grew up in Ealing. He studied painting and lithography at Hornsey College of Art from 1955 to 1959 and went on to the Royal College of Art, where his fellow students included David Hockney, R. B. Kitaj, Peter Phillips and Derek Boshier, but he was expelled at the end of his first year, in 1960, and went back to Hornsey to train as a teacher. He won the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale of 1963. His paintings and prints of the 1960s, in bright, flat colour, took the female figure, stockings and high heels from fashion and fetish imagery. Hatstand, Table and Chair, life-size fibreglass women as furniture, drew protests when first shown in 1970. He is a Senior Royal Academician.
Jones has been a prolific printmaker, and lithographs, screenprints and editioned sculpture come up most often; paintings and unique sculptures are rarer. The furniture sculptures were made in small editions, so the edition number and the condition of the fibreglass matter.

Chair, now at Tate, was later damaged with paint stripper on International Women's Day while on show there.
The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool held a retrospective in 1979, which travelled to the Serpentine, and the Royal Academy gave him a major exhibition in 2014.
