What a work by Beatriz Milhazes is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Beatriz Milhazes was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1960 and still lives and works there, in a studio overlooking the Botanical Garden. She has been called Brazil's most successful contemporary painter. Her abstract works fuse Brazilian cultural imagery, folk and decorative art and the Antropofagia movement of the late 1920s with European modernism, in vivid colour and energetic, rhythmic patterns. To make her paintings she uses a transfer technique, painting motifs on plastic sheets and peeling them onto the canvas once dry. She also makes collages, prints and installations, and has had solo exhibitions at the Fondation Cartier in Paris in 2009 and the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in 2011.
Paintings on canvas, collages and prints all appear. The transferred paint layers sit on the surface of the canvas, so condition should be checked closely, and collages are sensitive to light. Her prints are editioned, and the edition and publisher should be checked.
