What a work by Charline von Heyl is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Charline von Heyl was born in Mainz in 1960 and grew up in Bonn. She studied painting at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg under Jörg Immendorff and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Fritz Schwegler, and moved to New York in the mid-1990s; she has studios there and in Marfa, Texas. Her abstract paintings are deliberately unpredictable, each one working out its own combination of shapes, colours and marks, and she also works in drawing, printmaking and collage. Two travelling retrospectives in 2011 and 2012 began at Tate Liverpool and at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and in 2018 the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington gave her the largest American museum survey of her work to date, Snake Eyes.
Paintings on canvas, works on paper and prints all appear, and her prints are editioned, so the edition and publisher should be checked. A gallery invoice and the date of the work should accompany a painting, and large canvases should be checked for scuffs and abrasions.
