Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. Bio

Eva Helene Pade was born in Denmark in 1997 and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, taking her BFA in 2021 and her MFA in 2024. She lives and works in Paris. Her paintings are of the female figure, alone or in clusters and crowds, emerging from layers of fluid oil paint, sometimes faceless or covered, with limbs that blur and multiply and areas of raw cotton canvas left bare. She starts a figure as a few points on the canvas and builds it up through many layers, and looks back to the Northern European figurative tradition, to Edvard Munch, James Ensor and Otto Dix. She signed with Galleri Nicolai Wallner in Copenhagen while still a student and had her first major gallery exhibition there, Moment of Transition, in 2022.

She is a young painter with a short history on the secondary market, so a work's date and its route from the studio, through Galleri Nicolai Wallner or Thaddaeus Ropac, which represent her together, are the main reference points. Her canvases leave areas of unprimed cotton exposed, which mark and stain easily and are hard to clean, so condition should be looked at closely.

Copenhagen, ARKEN and Paris

ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art at Ishøj, south of Copenhagen, gave her her first museum exhibition in 2025.

Thaddaeus Ropac showed her in London in 2025, and she has shown new paintings at TEFAF New York.
