What a work by Hassan Sharif is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Hassan Sharif (1951–2016) was born in Bandar Lengeh, Iran, and lived and worked in Dubai. Through the 1970s he drew satirical caricatures for Emirati newspapers and magazines, and in 1979 he went to Britain to study, graduating from the Byam Shaw School of Art in London in 1984. There the artist Tam Giles drew him towards systems art, and he devised his Semi-Systems, drawings and later paintings made on a grid by rules of repetition, duration and chance. From the 1980s his Objects series bound and wove goods from Dubai's souq, shoes, bags, kitchenware, rope, wire and newspaper, into dense bundles about consumption and mass production. He was a founding member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society and, in 2007, of The Flying House in Dubai. He showed in the UAE pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2009, 2015 and 2017, and his retrospective I Am The Single Work Artist opened at Sharjah Art Foundation in 2017 before travelling to Berlin, Malmö and Saint-Étienne. His work is in Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, M+ and the Guggenheim.
His work ranges from paintings, drawings and Semi-Systems works on paper to the Objects, bundles of everyday goods tied with rope or wire that can loosen or lose parts when moved. A buyer will want the title and date of a work, a gallery invoice and a record of how it has been stored and handled.
