What a work by Heemin Chung is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Heemin Chung was born in Seoul in 1987 and lives and works there. She took her MFA at the Korea National University of Arts in 2015. Her subject is how screens and digital images change the way people see and feel, and she brings it back into the old genres of landscape and still life. Using modelling software and 3D printing, she makes sheets of transparent acrylic gel medium printed with images taken from the internet, then drapes, tucks and pinches these skins over canvases and steel supports, so that the original image survives only as an echo. Her painting uses the same layered, printed and moulded surfaces, between picture and object. She has had solo exhibitions at the Doosan Art Center, the Sindoh Art Space and the Kumho Museum of Art in Seoul, received the Doosan Arts Award in 2022, and has been resident at the SeMA Nanji Residency and the residency of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at Goyang.
She is early in her career, and a work's date, title and exhibition, with an invoice from Thaddaeus Ropac or her Seoul galleries, are what establish it. The gel skins and printed surfaces are delicate: they can scratch, dent, collect dust and react to heat, and works that combine canvas and steel should be packed by someone who knows them. Her work is in the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art and the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Seoul, screens and the still life
Her first solo exhibition was at PS Sarubia in Seoul in 2016, and she has been in group exhibitions at the Seoul Museum of Art, the Nam-Seoul Museum of Art and the Centre Culturel Coréen in Paris.
The Coreana Museum of Art in Seoul included her in Folding Acts.
