Bio
Jemima Murphy was born in London in 1992 and grew up between London and the New Forest, in a large artistic family. She took a BA in Russian at the University of Bristol and spent a year training as an actor in New York, then took up painting full time and completed an MA at City & Guilds of London Art School in 2023. She lives and works in London. Her paintings are mostly oil on linen, from canvases of 40 by 30 cm to diptychs more than three metres wide: abstract fields of colour that she calls reimagined landscapes, built from the physicality of paint and her own emotional experience. Roses and other flowers recur in her titles. She had a solo exhibition at Edji Gallery, Brussels, in 2023, and Victoria Miro Projects presented Finding June online in 2024. In 2025 Victoria Miro Projects and Anat Ebgi showed her paintings with sculpture by An Te Liu in Tracing, Los Angeles, and in 2026 Anat Ebgi showed Wild Reveries in New York. Her work is in the Green Family Art Foundation, Texas, and the Midas Collection, Los Angeles.
Her works are unique oil paintings, most on linen, from small canvases to large diptychs. Broad areas of open colour show scuffs, dents and handling marks, so check the surface and the edges of the canvas carefully. A buyer will want the gallery invoice and the title and date of the work, and for a diptych, both panels kept together.
