What a work by Jim Hodges is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Jim Hodges was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1957, took a BFA at Fort Wright College in 1980 and an MFA at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 1986. He began as a painter but soon turned to materials, artificial flowers, mirrors, gold leaf, chains hung as spider webs and cut-up jeans, to make works that are delicate and often barely there. Since the late 1980s his subjects have been fragility, the passing of time, love and death, and he has used embroidery and other traditionally domestic crafts to speak of intimacy and of his mother's presence. He lives and works in New York.

Many of his works are unique and physically delicate, silk flowers pinned to the wall, chain webs and mirrored pieces, and some come with installation instructions that are part of the work. Condition and completeness should be checked against the certificate, and works on paper and photographs are sensitive to light.
