What a work by Pablo Atchugarry is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Pablo Atchugarry was born in Montevideo in 1954. His father had trained under the Uruguayan Constructivist Joaquín Torres-García and encouraged him to paint, and in 1972, at eighteen, he had his first solo exhibition of paintings in Montevideo. He left South America for Europe in 1977 and showed paintings in Italy, Denmark, France and Sweden, and in 1979 he began carving marble, making his first sculpture in Carrara marble that year. In 1982 he settled permanently in Lecco, near Milan, where he carved a Pietà from a single block weighing twelve tons, and in 1987 he had his first solo exhibition of sculpture, in Milan. His sculptures are vertical abstract forms in which the stone seems to fold and ripple like fabric, most often in white Carrara marble, and he has held more than a hundred solo and group exhibitions.
His sculptures range from tabletop pieces to monumental works for gardens and public spaces, and size, the quality of the stone and the condition of the surface all bear on value. Marble chips and stains easily and weathers outdoors, so any repair or cleaning should be declared. Any certificate or invoice that came with the work should travel with it.
