Ross Muir is a self-taught Scottish painter from Glasgow whose work takes recognisable old master and canonical images — Vermeer, Van Gogh, Botticelli — and reworks them with contemporary and often specifically Glaswegian interventions. He has spoken publicly about addiction and recovery and about coming to painting outside any institutional route, and that biography is part of how the work is received.
