Amy Lincoln was born in 1979 and works in Brooklyn, painting skies, seas, clouds and plants in acrylic as tightly banded gradients of high-key colour. The subjects are traditional landscape ones handled in a manner that owes as much to colour-field painting and to printmaking as to observation, and the effect is of natural phenomena rendered as pure optical structure.
Unique acrylic paintings on panel and canvas lead, with a body of editions below. Flat, evenly graduated acrylic surfaces are the condition consideration: any scuff, indentation or uneven varnish reads immediately across a smooth gradient, and these are not surfaces that hide handling. They should be framed and transported with that in mind. Edition prints reproduce the gradients closely and can resemble the paintings in a photograph, so the support and the markings are what identify a work.
