What a work by Annie Morris is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. Bio
Annie Morris was born in London in 1978. She studied at Central Saint Martins, at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the sculptor Giuseppe Penone, and at the Slade, graduating from Camberwell College of Arts. Her work draws on her own experience and moves between painting, drawing and sculpture. She is best known for her Stacks, columns of rounded forms shaped from plaster and sand and painted in raw pigment, like a three-dimensional palette, which she has related to childbirth and fragility; they were first inspired by Antoni Tàpies's painting Bed with Colour of 1988. She works from a studio in Stoke Newington that she shares with her husband, the artist Idris Khan.
The Stacks come in different heights and colours, and the raw pigment surface marks easily, so how a work has been moved and stored matters. Drawings and works on paper also appear. A gallery invoice and the date of the work should go with it.
