Arghavan Khosravi was born in Iran in 1984 and works in the United States, and the paintings draw on Persian miniature painting and on the experience of exile and of women's constrained freedom. They are physically unusual: canvases are shaped, layered one over another, cut and sometimes stitched or bound with actual thread and cord, so that the surface is constructed rather than flat and the imagery of restraint is literal as well as depicted.
Unique works are the market. Their construction is the practical issue for anyone holding one — these are assemblies of shaped supports with three-dimensional elements, and they cannot be rolled, are awkward to crate, and have components that can shift or detach. Any condition assessment needs to cover the structure as well as the paint. Documentation from the gallery, including installation notes where they exist, should stay with the piece. The market has risen quickly, so acquisition date is relevant.
