What a work by Brandon Deener is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Brandon Deener was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1982 and grew up in a musical family, playing drums in church and later working as a beat-maker and producer in studios with Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Lil Wayne. Deener learned to paint largely from Instagram, which Deener has called an art school, and moved from pop-style still lifes of sweets and balloon dogs to hyperrealism worked from photographs, then to looser portraits of Black subjects. The figures often have long, stretched necks, which the artist describes as an Afrofuturist image of rising up and of Black pride, and jazz musicians such as Miles Davis and players of the horn recur. The paintings are in oil, acrylic, pigment stick and spray paint on canvas, linen, paper and wood. Deener has shown with Simchowitz Gallery and Jac Forbes Gallery in Los Angeles, A Hug from the Artworld in New York and Gallery One in Fort Lauderdale, and in 2024 Resonance, fifteen large paintings at Galerie 75 Faubourg, was a first solo exhibition in Paris. Deener lives and works in Los Angeles.

The work is mostly unique painting on canvas, linen, board and paper. Pigment stick and spray paint can smudge or scuff, and large canvases are easily dented in storage, so condition matters. For anything offered as a print, check the edition number, the signature and the publisher. A gallery invoice and the date of the work should go with any painting.
