What a work by Cory Arcangel is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Cory Arcangel was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1978, studied classical guitar at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and switched to music technology, graduating in 2000. At Oberlin he formed the Beige Programming Ensemble, which made music and art from obsolete computers and game consoles, and his best-known work, Super Mario Clouds of 2002, is a Nintendo cartridge he reprogrammed so that only the drifting clouds of Super Mario Bros. remain. He has since worked in video, performance, music, software, drawing and print, reusing what technology leaves behind: YouTube clips, bowling games played badly on purpose, and the Photoshop Gradient Demonstrations, large prints made with the program's default gradient tool and titled with the exact settings used to make them. He was in the Whitney Biennial of 2004, and in 2011 the Whitney gave him a floor of the museum for Pro Tools. He lives in Stavanger, Norway, where his merchandise label, Arcangel Surfware, opened its first shop in 2018.
Much of his work exists in editions, as videos, modified cartridges, software and prints, and the edition number, the certificate and, for anything that runs, the hardware or files it needs are part of the work. Original consoles and cartridges age, so it should be clear whether a piece is shown on its original equipment or on approved replacements. The Photoshop gradient prints are chromogenic prints, often very large, and sensitive to light and handling. He has been represented by Team Gallery and Thaddaeus Ropac.
Buffalo, Oberlin and the Whitney
Solo exhibitions followed at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin in 2010 and the Barbican in London and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh in the years after.
He received a Creative Capital award in 2006 and the Kino der Kunst award for his films and videos in 2015.
