What a work by David Nash is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
David Nash was born in Esher, Surrey, in 1945 and spent the holidays of his childhood in Ffestiniog in north Wales, where he is now based, in Blaenau Ffestiniog. He studied at Kingston College of Art from 1963 to 1967 and as a postgraduate at Chelsea School of Art from 1969 to 1970. He works with wood, trees and the natural environment, carving fallen or felled timber with a chainsaw and an axe and often charring it black with a blowtorch, and he also plants and shapes living trees. His best-known land work, Wooden Boulder, is a large wooden sphere carved in 1978 and left in the Welsh landscape, where it has made its way down streams towards the sea for decades. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1999 and appointed OBE in 2004.
Wood moves, splits and checks as it ages, and that is part of the work, but rot, insect damage and new cracks should be noted, and outdoor pieces weather. Works on paper and prints also appear. A gallery invoice and the date of the work place it within his output.
