What a work by Edmund de Waal is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Edmund de Waal was born in Nottingham in 1964. His interest in ceramics began at the age of five, when his father took an evening class at the Lincoln School of Art, and it has remained at the centre of his work. Since 2000 he has moved away from single vessels for domestic use towards groups of vessels and objects, and then to wall-mounted and freestanding vitrines filled with thrown porcelain, often made in response to collections, archives or the history of a particular place. He is also a writer: The Hare with Amber Eyes, a history of his family, the Ephrussi, won the Costa Book Award for Biography and the Ondaatje Prize in 2011, and The White Road, on the history of porcelain, followed in 2015. He lives and works in London.
His works are mostly groups of vessels in a vitrine or on a shelf and are sold as a whole, so every piece should be present and the vitrine undamaged. Porcelain chips and cracks easily, and any restoration should be declared; a gallery invoice and the date of the work should go with it.
