What a work by Emma Prempeh is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Emma Prempeh was born in London in 1996 and is of Ghanaian and Vincentian heritage. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating in 2019, and completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2022 on a Leverhulme Trust Arts Scholarship. She lives and works in London. Her paintings begin with black grounds, using the tonal range of the colour to call up remembered people, places and events, and often show domestic life with family and friends, drawn from memories of growing up in south London. She works in oil and acrylic, sometimes with textiles and print, and lays Schlag metal, a brass alloy that imitates gold leaf and oxidises over time, over selected areas; some installations add projected still and moving images. She won the Ingram Collection Purchase Prize in 2019 and the Valerie Beston Trust Arts Award in 2022. Tiwani Contemporary represents her and has given her solo exhibitions in London and Lagos, and Perrotin gave her a solo exhibition in Paris in 2026. Her work is in the collections of Tate and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry.

Her works are mostly unique paintings, many of them large, in oil and acrylic with textiles, print and Schlag metal. The metal is meant to oxidise and change colour, so a buyer will want to know how a canvas has been kept and whether the surface has been cleaned or retouched. A gallery invoice and the date of the work should go with it.
