What a work by Han Bing is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Han Bing was born in China in 1986, took her BFA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and her MFA at Parsons School of Design in New York, and has lived in New York, Los Angeles and Shanghai before settling in Paris. Her paintings start from the city: street scenes, building façades and above all the torn layers of fly-posting, with the accidental marks and glitches that tearing leaves behind. She works in oil stick and spray paint as well as oil, lets chance moves in the painting steer the composition, and takes ideas from theatre, science and literature, so that recognisable figures break into fragments and move towards abstraction. Her first solo exhibition at a French institution was at Passerelle Centre d'art contemporain in Brest in 2024, and she has shown at Le Consortium in Dijon, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing and the National Art Museum of China. In October 2025 she was artist in residence at the Palais Garnier in Paris, for the Paris Opera's celebration of the building's 150th anniversary.

She is not the Han Bing born in 1974, a Chinese conceptual and performance artist known for walking a cabbage on a lead through Beijing, and the two should not be confused. Her market is young, and the date, the exhibition and the gallery a painting came from establish it. Oil stick and spray paint are worked heavily into the canvas and can smudge or transfer if a painting is stacked or wrapped tightly. Thaddaeus Ropac represents her.

Beijing, New York and Paris

Her first exhibition with Thaddaeus Ropac, got heart, opened at the gallery's Marais space in Paris in 2023, and Atlas followed in London in 2025.

Le Consortium in Dijon included her in exhibitions in 2022 and 2024.
