James Hart Dyke is a British painter trained as an architect who has worked as an expedition and travel artist — accompanying climbs, royal tours and journeys in remote country — and who in 2010 spent a year with the Secret Intelligence Service, producing a body of work shown afterwards as A Year With MI6. The painting itself is traditional in the best sense: oil, worked from drawings and observation, in a British landscape tradition that runs back through the war artists.

Works from the MI6 year are a distinct and more documented group within the output and are frequently sought as such, so identifying whether a picture belongs to that body matters.
