What a work by Nengi Omuku is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Nengi Omuku was born in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, in 1987 and took her BA and MA in fine art at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where she won the Prankerd Jones Memorial Prize in 2012. As a schoolgirl she won the British Council's art competition for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2003, presented by Queen Elizabeth II. She paints in oil on sanyan, a strip-woven silk cloth made by Yoruba weavers whose texture and seams become part of the image, and her paintings of hazy figures, gatherings and gardens in soft, glowing colour explore states of mind, community and healing. She lives and works in Lagos.
Her paintings have appeared at auction in recent years; provenance through her galleries and the condition of the textile support matter.
Asaba, the Slade and sanyan
Her solo exhibitions include A State of Mind at Omenka Gallery in Lagos in 2015 and Gathering in London in 2020.
Her early paintings, such as I Can't Feel My Legs of 2012, were in oil on canvas; the move to sanyan came later.
