What a work by Oliver Beer is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Oliver Beer was born in 1985, trained in musical composition at the Academy of Contemporary Music in London, studied art at the Ruskin School at Oxford and cinema theory at the Sorbonne, and lives and works in London and Paris. His performances, films, installations, paintings and sculpture reveal the hidden acoustic life of rooms, vessels and bodies. In the Resonance Project, begun in 2007, singers find the natural note of a space until the building resonates with them, from the Sydney Opera House and the Palais de Tokyo to a hammam in Istanbul and the Brighton sewers. Vessel Orchestra, made in 2019 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, gathered hollow objects from the museum's collection, chosen for their natural pitch, into a single playable instrument. His Two-Dimensional Sculptures slice personal objects, musical instruments and family heirlooms among them, and reassemble them flat in resin, and his Resonance Paintings are made by playing music through a loudspeaker under a canvas scattered with dry pigment, so that the harmonies draw their own forms.

The Resonance Paintings, the resin sculptures and works on paper make up most of what can change hands. The pigment surfaces of the paintings are delicate, and the resin works need protection from scratches and from direct sun. A work's series, date and provenance through Thaddaeus Ropac, his gallery since 2013, are the reference points.
