What a work by Paola Pivi is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Paola Pivi was born in Milan in 1971. She began studying nuclear engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, then moved to the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied under Alberto Garutti. In 1997, while still a student, she showed an 18-wheel lorry turned on its side in the exhibition Fuori Uso in Pescara, and at the 1999 Venice Biennale her upturned Fiat G-91 fighter jet was part of the Italian participation that won the Golden Lion. She works in photography, sculpture and installation, changing the scale, materials and colour of familiar things and bringing unexpected elements together, and some works involve live animals and people. She returned to the Venice Biennale in 2003, took part in Manifesta in 2004 and 2014 and the Berlin Biennale in 2008, and has shown at the Museum of Modern Art, Tate, the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt and Kunsthalle Basel. In 2025 the Art Gallery of Western Australia gave her the solo exhibition I don't like it, I love it. She has lived and worked in Italy, Anchorage, Hawaii, New Delhi and Toronto, and her work is in the Centre Pompidou and MAXXI.

Her work includes photographs, sculptures and installations. Keep the certificate and the gallery invoice with a work, together with any instructions for assembling a sculpture or installation. Photographs should be checked for fading, and coloured surfaces for dust and dirt.
