Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Per Kirkeby (1938–2018) was born in Copenhagen. He began studying natural history at the University of Copenhagen in 1957 and went on expeditions to Greenland as a research assistant in 1958, 1959 and 1960; in 1962 he joined the Experimental Art School in Copenhagen, and in 1964 he completed a master's degree in arctic geology. His practice took in painting, drawing, prints, sculpture in bronze and in brick, writing and film. Pop-inspired paintings on masonite in the 1960s gave way to the large, gestural abstract canvases for which he is best known, full of allusions to landscape, and he rose to international prominence in the early 1980s alongside Georg Baselitz and A. R. Penck. He showed at the Venice Biennale in 1976, 1980, 1993, 1997 and 2005 and at Documenta 7 in 1982, and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe from 1978 and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt from 1989 to 2000. Tate Modern held a major survey of his work in 2009, and his work is in Tate, the Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou.
Besides oil paintings on canvas and masonite he made blackboard works, bronze sculpture, works on paper and prints. Heavily worked oil paint should be checked for cracking and losses, and bronzes for damage to the patina. Keep the title, date, any gallery invoice and exhibition labels with the work.
