What a work by Permindar Kaur is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Permindar Kaur was born in Nottingham in 1965 to Sikh parents of Punjabi origin. She took a BA at Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1989 and an MA at Glasgow School of Art in 1992, and spent several years in Barcelona in the early 1990s. She came to prominence in that decade, loosely associated with both the YBAs and Black British art, and was included in British Art Show 4. Her sculpture draws on home, domestic life and childhood: houses, beds and chairs appear, often outsized or distorted, in materials including glass, metal and brightly coloured fabrics, so that familiar forms become unsettling. She had solo exhibitions at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and the Mead Gallery in 1996, at Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery in 1998 and at The Art House in Wakefield in 2022, and she was shortlisted for the Freelands Award in 2022 for an exhibition at the John Hansard Gallery in Southampton. Group exhibitions include Tread Softly at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2017 and Animals & Us at Turner Contemporary in 2018.

Her works are mostly sculptures in fabric, metal and glass. Fabric can fade, mark and gather dust, and glass and metal parts need careful packing, so a buyer will ask how a work has been stored and moved. Keep the title, date and gallery invoice with it.
