What a work by Shirazeh Houshiary is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Shirazeh Houshiary was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1955 and left Iran in 1973. She studied at Chelsea School of Art in London from 1976 to 1979 and was a junior fellow at Cardiff College of Art in 1979 and 1980. She first came to notice as a sculptor alongside Richard Deacon and Anish Kapoor, but her work stood apart in its Persian roots and its spiritual concerns, drawing on Sufi mysticism and the poetry of Rumi, and she was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1994. She now works across painting, sculpture, installation and animation, and with the architect Pip Horne she designed the east window of St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, unveiled in 2008. Her work is in collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and Tate, and she lives and works in London.

Paintings on canvas, works on paper and sculptures all appear, along with prints. The surfaces of her paintings are delicate and easily marked, and sculptures need careful packing. A gallery invoice and the date of the work place it within her output.
