Shok-1 valuation

Shok-1 is a British graffiti writer who has been painting since the 1980s and whose distinctive body of work takes the visual language of the X-ray — translucent bone, ghosted interiors, the greenish palette of medical imaging — and renders it freehand in aerosol. The combination is unusual and technically demanding: the transparency effects are achieved with spray alone rather than with masking or stencil, which is the point of them.
Unique works in aerosol on canvas and board are the market, with editions issued periodically. Because the effect depends on thin, layered translucent passages, the surface is less robust than a flatly painted one and the ground matters — a work on paper or board behaves differently from one on canvas. As with most artists from the writing tradition, documentation is thinner than in a gallery-led career, so anything acquired directly should keep its record. Earlier period work is scarcer than the studio output suggests.
