Selling HENI prints

Damien Hirst, Peter Doig, Invader, Gerhard Richter and Shepard Fairey: once a HENI release closes, the only way to buy is from another owner. That is the market we sell into.

HENI publishes prints and editions with some of the most collected artists working today, and with the estates of others. Each release is open for a week or two, by application or direct order, and then it closes. Collectors who missed it, or who want a title they were not allocated, buy on the secondary market.

We value and sell HENI prints for owners in the UK and abroad. Find your artist below for every series and title HENI has published, or send photographs and we will identify it for you.

What a buyer will ask

Two kinds of edition
Some HENI editions are fixed in advance: Peter Doig's small House of Music prints are editions of 250 plus 25 artist's proofs, and Troubled Waters is 200 plus 30. Others are limited by demand during the release window, as with Hirst's The Emotions and Invader's Rubikcubism, so the size is only known once the window closes. Scarcity sets the resale price, and it is the first thing a buyer wants to know.
Where it is signed
Doig's House of Music prints and InvadHirst are hand signed on the front. The Emotions, Rubikcubism and Troubled Waters are signed and numbered on the label. Each is correct for its edition, so photograph the front and the back.
The paperwork is the provenance
Your HENI order confirmation, invoice and anything that came in the crate tie the print to its release. Keep them with it. A print with its papers is an easier sale.
Size and weight
Many HENI prints are Diasec mounted on aluminium panel, and a 100 cm panel can weigh 13.5 kg. Crating, shipping and insurance are part of the cost of selling and help decide the route.

Ways to sell a HENI print

Auction
Prints and multiples sales include HENI editions. The seller's commission, insurance and photography come off the hammer price, and the timing follows the sale calendar.
Private sale
We place works directly with collectors and galleries through our network, at an agreed price and without a public result.
HENI's own resale service
HENI Private Sales takes enquiries to buy and sell works from its past releases.

We are independent of all three, so we can tell you which suits your print. Auction fees explained sets out what comes off a hammer price.

Common questions

What is HENI?

A London company that publishes prints, tapestries, books and digital works with artists and estates. It is best known as Damien Hirst's publisher, and it has also released editions by Peter Doig, Invader, Shepard Fairey, Gerhard Richter and others. Releases are sold for a short window, by application or direct order, from heni.com and its Soho gallery.

Can I sell a HENI print?

Yes. Once it is delivered and paid for it is yours to sell. Once a release window has closed the secondary market is the only place to buy, which is why HENI prints trade actively after release.

How do I find out what my HENI print is worth?

Send photographs of the front, the label or back and your HENI paperwork. We identify the series and title and tell you what comparable prints have been selling for, with no obligation.

Should I sell through HENI, at auction or privately?

It depends on the print, its edition size and how quickly you want to sell. We are independent of HENI and of the auction houses, so we can compare the routes for your print and tell you which suits it.
