Bio
Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato (1900–1995) was born in Belo Horizonte to Italian immigrant parents. At twenty he moved with his family to Italy, where he worked as a wall painter on the rebuilding of Arsiero, a town destroyed in the First World War, restored frescoes, and briefly enrolled at the Reale Accademia delle Arti in Vicenza; otherwise he was largely self-taught. With the Dutch painter Cornelius Keesman he spent a year cycling across Europe, seeing work by Matisse and Picasso. He returned to Brazil in 1948, worked in construction and as a mural painter, and after a leg injury in 1956 gave himself fully to painting. His landscapes, still lifes and scenes of his neighbourhood began as drawings made on long walks and were painted from memory, often with pigments he made himself, the surfaces grooved with combs, brushes and forks. He showed at the 3rd Bratislava Triennale in 1973 and at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in 2018, and the Museu de Arte da Pampulha, MASP and the Pinacoteca hold his work.
His works are mostly unique paintings, on canvas and on supports he made himself from cardboard, cement plates or wire. Paint he mixed himself and worked into grooved surfaces can crack or flake, so a buyer will want to know about condition and any restoration. A gallery invoice, exhibition history and the date of the work should go with it.
