What a work by Richard Long is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Richard Long was born in Bristol in 1945, and still lives and works there. He studied at the West of England College of Art from 1962 to 1965 and at Saint Martin's School of Art in London from 1966 to 1968, under Anthony Caro and Phillip King and alongside Hamish Fulton. Since the mid-1960s his art has been made by walking, in the Sahara, Australia, Iceland and close to home, and recorded in photographs, maps and text works, or brought into the gallery as lines and circles of stone and works made with mud. He is the only artist to have been shortlisted for the Turner Prize four times, and he won it in 1989 with White Water Line. He has been knighted, and his work is on permanent display at Tate and at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

Floor sculptures in stone should be complete, with every stone accounted for, and any layout plan or certificate that came with them kept with the work. Mud works and text works on paper are sensitive to handling and light, and photographs and prints are editioned, so the edition and certificate should be checked.
