What a work by Bony Ramirez is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Bony Ramirez was born in Tenares, in the Dominican Republic, in 1996 and moved to the United States with his family in 2009, at the age of 13, going to high school in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He is self-taught: after school he worked in construction and kept Sundays for his art. He draws stylised, distorted figures on paper in oil stick, paint and coloured pencil, then mounts them on wood panels painted with Caribbean backdrops, adding wallpaper, rhinestones, beads and sometimes real knives. Catholic imagery, Italian Mannerism, Renaissance portraiture and children's illustration feed into pictures of Caribbean life and its colonial history, full of plantains, coconut palms, machetes and crabs. His sculptural figures of children, which he calls Caribabies, were the subject of his first institutional exhibition, at the Sugar Hill Children's Museum in Harlem in 2023, and in 2024 the Newark Museum of Art gave him the solo exhibition Cattleya. His work is in the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the X Museum in Beijing. He lives and works in Jersey City.
His works are unique: mixed-media paintings on panel, works on paper and sculpture. The panels carry collaged paper, wallpaper, beads, rhinestones and sometimes knives, so check that nothing has lifted, cracked or come loose, and keep any original crate or packing. A gallery invoice and the date of the work are the first things a buyer will ask for.
