What a work by Michael Raedecker is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Michael Raedecker was born in Amsterdam in 1963 and is a great-grandson of the Dutch sculptor John Rädecker. He studied fashion design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam from 1985 to 1990 and worked for a short time with Martin Margiela, then studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and at Goldsmiths in London, where he took an MFA in 1997. His paintings combine acrylic paint with thread, embroidery and textiles, a legacy of his training in fashion, in muted colours and everyday subjects: a table and chairs, washing on a line, still lifes. In 1999 his painting Mirage, made with sequins and thread, won first prize at the John Moores Painting Prize in Liverpool, and in 2000 he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. He lives and works in London.

Thread and embroidery make the surfaces vulnerable: loose or broken stitches, snagging and dust are the things to check, and works should be framed or stored with care. A gallery invoice and the date of the work place it within his output, and works on paper also appear.
