Eelus valuation
Wigan-born, London-trained, and a stencil artist whose editions sell out on release.
Eelus is a British artist from Wigan who came to London in the early 2000s and built a following through stencil work and screenprint editions released directly to a mailing list. The imagery pairs a clean graphic style with pop-cultural and often unsettling subject matter, and the print releases have consistently sold through quickly, which is what established the secondary market.
The market here is genuinely print-led rather than painting-led, which is unusual and worth saying: the editions are the main event, and edition size, colourway, artist's proofs and hand-finished variants are what separate one sheet from another. Signing and numbering sit in the margin and are the first thing to photograph. Condition on works on paper is the usual story — light, tape, mount burn and trimming — and margins should not be cut for framing under any circumstances. Unique canvases exist and are scarcer.
