What a work by Igshaan Adams is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Igshaan Adams was born in Cape Town in 1982 and grew up in Bonteheuwel, a suburb on the Cape Flats created as a segregated area under apartheid. He studied at the Ruth Prowse School of Art, starting in charcoal and oil before turning to textiles. His work combines performance, weaving, sculpture and installation, in thread, beads, cotton twine, rope, wire, fabric and linoleum salvaged from working-class homes, and it draws on his religious upbringing, with a Muslim father and a Christian mother, on his sexuality, and on memories of home and community. He often uses the idea of desire lines, the paths people make for themselves across open ground. For Desire Lines at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022, his first major solo exhibition in the United States, he made Epping II, a large installation of floor pieces and wire cloud sculptures. He has also shown at the Hayward Gallery (2021), the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), the São Paulo Bienal (2023) and The Hepworth Wakefield (2024). He won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art in 2018, and lives and works in Cape Town.
His works are unique: wall-hung weavings, floor pieces and suspended sculptures of wire and beads. Beaded and woven surfaces can snag, shed beads or sag if hung badly, so a buyer will want to know how a piece has been hung, stored and moved, and whether beads are loose or missing. Installation instructions, the gallery invoice, from Blank Projects, Casey Kaplan or Thomas Dane, and the date of the work should go with it.
