What a work by Jadé Fadojutimi is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Jadé Fadojutimi was born in London in 1993 to parents of Nigerian heritage and grew up in Ilford. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating in 2015, and at the Royal College of Art, where she took her MA in 2017. A trip to Japan after the Slade and a four-month exchange in Kyoto in 2016 shaped her painting language, and she returns to draw there several times a year. Her large canvases mix abstract and figurative marks in saturated colour and fast, dancing gesture, drawing on anime, Japanese landscape, clothing, Victorian chairs and art history as a record of feeling and memory. Her first museum solo exhibition was at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami in 2021, she had her first New York solo show in 2024, and Time named her among its hundred rising leaders the same year.

Her paintings began to appear at auction in 2021 and drew intense attention, so provenance through her galleries and any earlier sale history matter. Works on paper are rarer than the paintings.

Ilford, Kyoto and the Slade

The Numbing Vibrancy of Characters in Play, at PEER in London in 2019, was her first solo exhibition in a British public institution, and Memory in Translation in Tokyo in 2022 her first in Asia.

She works in a studio inside a warehouse in south-east London.
