Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Kent Monkman was born in St. Marys, Ontario, in 1965 and raised in Winnipeg; he is a citizen of the Fisher River Cree Nation in Manitoba, and lives and works between Toronto and New York. He graduated from Sheridan College in 1986 and worked early on as a designer of sets and costumes for Indigenous theatre. He works in painting, film and video, performance and installation, and is best known for large, detailed paintings in the manner of nineteenth-century history and landscape painting that recast colonial narratives from an Indigenous point of view. Many feature his two-spirit alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, whom he developed in the early 2000s. In 2019 the Metropolitan Museum of Art commissioned two monumental paintings from him for its Great Hall, mistikôsiwak (Wooden Boat People).
Besides the large history paintings he makes smaller paintings, works on paper and prints. A gallery invoice and the date of the work place it within his output, and prints should be checked for their edition and publisher.
