What a work by Marcin Maciejowski is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Marcin Maciejowski was born in Babice, near Kraków, in 1974. He studied architecture at the Kraków University of Technology, left after three years for the faculty of graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, and took his diploma in the poster studio in 2001. From 1996 he was one of the Ładnie group, the Pretty group, with Wilhelm Sasnal, Rafał Bujnowski and Józef Tomczyk, painters who answered the solemnity of the academy with jokes, everyday subjects and plain, accessible painting, and who did much to revive painting in Poland. His pictures are taken from newspapers, magazines, television, advertising and his own photographs, of celebrities, politicians, youth subcultures, friends and the art world, painted in a flat, graphic manner that owes something to comics and something to the Old Masters, often with captions or speech. Their commentary is sharp but never spelled out. He received the Paszport Polityki award for visual art in 2002.
Paintings of the late 1990s and 2000s, the Ładnie years and just after, are the most sought after, and the date, title and any caption identify a work. He also draws prolifically and illustrates books, and drawings and works on paper come up as well. A provenance through Thaddaeus Ropac or his Polish galleries supports a painting's history.
Babice, Kraków and the Ładnie group
The National Museum in Kraków held a large solo exhibition of his work in 2010, and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead showed him in 2013.
His work is in the Belvedere in Vienna, the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg and MOCAK in Kraków.
