Ronnie Wood was born in Hillingdon in 1947 and studied at Ealing Art College before the music; both his brothers were painters, and he has said the drawing came first and never stopped. He has worked throughout his career in the Faces, the Rolling Stones and beyond, producing portraits of his bandmates and of other musicians, tour and studio drawings, landscapes and large expressive canvases, and has exhibited regularly in commercial galleries in London and internationally since the 1980s. His work also appears on record sleeves and tour material.
The market here is shaped by the music as much as by the painting, and the two value things differently. It is dominated by editions: signed limited-edition prints and giclees published in numbered runs, frequently hand-embellished, sold through galleries with certificates, and issued in substantial quantities over decades. Original oils, acrylics and drawings are far scarcer and sit well above them. Owners frequently overestimate the editions. Documentation from the original publisher, and any provenance connecting a work to a specific tour or sitter, is what carries value.
