What a work by Sarah Ball is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Sarah Ball was born in Yorkshire in 1965 and studied at Newport Art College in the early 1980s, later completing an MFA. She lives and works in Cornwall. Her portraits are small, close and meticulously painted, usually of a single sitter, and they are made from found images rather than from life: newspaper cuttings, archival photographs and pictures from social media. Hair, clothes, make-up and expression carry much of their meaning, and gender and identity, and the ways people choose to present themselves to the world, are her recurring subjects. Stephen Friedman Gallery showed her work at Frieze New York in 2021 and gave her a first solo exhibition in London in 2022.
Her works are small oil paintings, and at that scale a scratch or dent to the surface is very visible, so condition matters. A gallery invoice and the date of the work are the first things a buyer asks for.
