Szabolcs Bozo was born in Hungary in 1992 and works in London. He is self-taught, came to painting through drawing rather than through an art school, and the work is populated by big, soft, brightly coloured creatures that read as children's-book characters enlarged to gallery scale — an idiom that connects him to a wider contemporary current running from Nara through to a generation of painters working in a deliberately naive register.

This is a market that rose extremely quickly at the turn of the 2020s and has been volatile since, which makes acquisition date, route and documentation more relevant to a valuation than they would be for a settled name — where and when a work was bought frequently matters as much as what it is.
