What a work by Ablade Glover is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Ablade Glover was born in 1934 in the La community of Accra and trained as a teacher at Kumasi before a scholarship took him to study textile design at the Central School of Art and Design in London from 1959 to 1962. A further scholarship, from Kwame Nkrumah's government, took him to the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1964 and 1965, where a teacher suggested he apply paint with a palette knife, the tool that shaped his style. He went on to Kent State University and Ohio State University, where he took a PhD in 1974, and then taught for twenty years at the College of Art in Kumasi, becoming its dean. His paintings of markets, crowds and townscapes, and of women gathered in dense groups, are built from slabs of bright colour that resolve into scenes at a distance.
Glover has been prolific, and his oils come up regularly at auction, along with works on paper. A provenance through his own gallery in Accra or his London dealers is common.
La, Newcastle and the Artists Alliance Gallery
In 1993 he founded the Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra to show Ghanaian artists, and he received the Order of the Volta in 2007.
His work is in collections including UNESCO in Paris and the Imperial Palace in Japan, and in 1998 he received the Flagstar Award from the Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana.
