What a work by Cinga Samson is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Cinga Samson was born in 1986 in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, and grew up between eThembeni in the rural Eastern Cape and Cape Town. He began painting at Isibane Creative Arts, a shared studio in Khayelitsha, working alongside older artists and on scavenged boards when he could not afford canvas, and took a one-year course in photography at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography. His oil paintings show young Black men and himself in formal, ceremonial poses, dressed in fashionable clothes among dark, lush flowers and foliage, their eyes painted without pupils, in a deep, glowing palette. He has had solo exhibitions in London, New York and Cape Town and joined White Cube in 2021. He lives and works in Cape Town.
His paintings have appeared at auction in recent years, and provenance through his galleries and exhibition history are the first questions.
Khayelitsha, Isibane and White Cube
His first sale was a large painting on Masonite in a frame he built himself, bought by the art consultant Jeanetta Blignaut.
He works in a studio converted from an industrial building in Cape Town.
