What a work by Sohan Qadri is worth
Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio
Sohan Qadri (1932–2011) was born in the village of Chachoki, near Phagwara in Punjab, into a farming family. At the age of seven he came under the influence of two spiritual teachers living on the family farm, Bikham Giri, a Tantric yogi, and Ahmed Ali Shah Qadri, a Sufi, which began a lifelong commitment to meditation and art. As a young man he fled to the Himalayas and spent several months in monasteries in Tibet before he took up painting. In 1965 he left India and travelled widely, settling in Copenhagen, where he lived for some thirty years, painting and teaching yoga, and he came to know figures including René Magritte, Heinrich Böll and Le Corbusier. Representation soon left his work, which grew out of deep meditation and Tantric symbolism. He began with oils on canvas, but from the 1970s he worked on paper, soaking it, carving and serrating it, and colouring it with luminous dyes, so that the sheet became almost three-dimensional; the Dot series is one example. He was also a poet, and he held more than seventy exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa.
His works on paper are unique pieces, and the soaked, cut and dyed surface is delicate, so check for tears, losses and fading of the dyes, and keep a work framed behind glazing that filters ultraviolet light. The title, date and any gallery invoice should stay with it.
