Soup Can
Tesco Value tomato soup in place of Campbell's. Released in multiple colourways, each a separate small edition, and the colourway is where almost all of the price difference lives.

Which Soup Can
Soup Can was issued across a number of colourways, and they are not one edition in several finishes — each is recorded separately and they trade at materially different levels.
The standard release is the most available; several of the alternative colourways were issued in much smaller numbers and are correspondingly scarce. An owner who says they have a Soup Can has told us roughly a quarter of what we need. The colour, the numbering and the pencil line together identify the sheet.
Warhol again, and a British joke
The image takes Warhol's Campbell's soup can and replaces it with a British supermarket's own-brand value range, which is a sharper joke in the United Kingdom than elsewhere and lands differently in different markets.
That is worth knowing when choosing where to sell. The Pop-appropriation audience is international; the specific joke is local. For this image a UK saleroom is not automatically the right answer, and it is a case where comparing houses across markets earns its keep.
Condition on flat commercial colour
The print is built from large flat areas of saturated colour with hard edges, imitating packaging, and that is the least forgiving surface there is.
Scuffs, handling marks and uneven fading all show immediately, and any inconsistency in the flat ground reads as damage even when it is not. Assess in raking light rather than from a straight-on photograph.
Before you buy or sell one
- Identify the colourway — several are far scarcer than the standard release.
- Consider market as well as route: the joke is British, the Pop audience is not.
- Check the flat colour fields in raking light for scuffs and uneven fading.
- Confirm the Pest Control certificate corresponds to this edition number specifically.
