What a work by Lisa Yuskavage is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Lisa Yuskavage was born in Philadelphia in 1962. She studied at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, including a year at its programme in Rome, graduating in 1984, and took an MFA at the Yale School of Art in 1986. She lives and works in New York. Her figure paintings, mostly of women, combine glowing, artificial colour and forthright sexuality with a mix of high and low culture, and she cites Giovanni Bellini, Vermeer and Degas among her sources. Her work is often discussed in terms of the gaze and the psychology of looking. She has had solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia in 2000, the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva in 2001 and the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City in 2006, and a survey, The Brood, opened at the Rose Art Museum in 2015.

Paintings are her main work, alongside drawings and prints. Her glazed, luminous surfaces show abrasions and retouching readily, so condition should be checked, and a gallery invoice and the date of the work are the first things a buyer asks for.
