What a work by Luiz Zerbini is worth

Send photographs and whatever paperwork came with it. The first question is what the work actually is — edition or unique, when, and in what condition — because everything else follows from the answer. A valuation is free, made online from the photographs you send, and it commits you to nothing. We act for sellers across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Bio

Luiz Zerbini was born in São Paulo in 1959 and graduated in fine arts from the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, São Paulo, in 1982. He lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. He works in painting, photography, watercolour, sculpture and installation. His paintings bring geometric and organic forms together, drawing on the natural and urban landscape of Brazil, on art history and popular culture, and on images from the ceremonies of indigenous peoples set beside historical portraits. In 1995 he won the grand prize of criticism for the visual arts from the São Paulo Art Critics Association (APCA), and he has shown at the São Paulo Biennial in 1987 and 2010. The Fondation Cartier in Paris included him in a 2013 survey of Latin American photography and in Southern Geometries in 2018, and gave him Nous les Arbres in 2019. MASP in São Paulo held the solo exhibition The Same Story Is Never the Same in 2022, and the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil showed Paisagens Ruminadas in Rio de Janeiro and Brasília in 2024. His work is in the collections of Inhotim and the Itaú Cultural Institute.

Besides paintings on canvas, many of them monumental, he makes monotypes in oil on paper, watercolours, photographs and sculpture. For a painting, keep the gallery invoice with the title and date. A monotype is unique, so note the paper and the signature. Large canvases should be checked for scuffs and stretcher marks before they are moved.
