Snik is a British artist duo, Nick and Laura, working in multi-layer stencil at a level of complexity that is unusual even in a field defined by stencils — individual works run to dozens of hand-cut layers, which is why the surfaces read closer to photography than to graffiti. The subjects are almost always single female figures, and the work has appeared on walls internationally alongside a steady studio output.
The market is split between unique works on canvas and board and screenprint and hand-finished editions, with the hand-finished and spray-embellished variants sitting well above standard impressions. Because the method is layered stencil, a hand-finished edition and a unique work can look similar in a photograph and are not close in value, so the reverse, the certificate and the edition marking are what need to be read. Documentation accompanies most releases.
